Jujube fruits, also known as red dates or Chinese dates, come from China. In fact, jujube trees have been grown there for more than 4,000 years. In the past, it was classified as one of "The Five Fruits" along with peach, plum, ume (plum species) and apricot. Thanks to jujube's richness of vitamin C, it is often called "king of vitamin C".
Jujube is also rich in protein, fat, carbohydrates, carotene, B vitamins, vitamin P, calcium, phosphorus, iron and other nutrients.
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) states that jujube is sweet and warm in properties. It covers two meridians, spleen and stomach. Its basic functions are to tonify the middle-heater and Qi and nourish blood.
The usual cooking dose is from 6 to 15 grams, or 5 fruits.
